Charging mode of blizzardsun / 2011-11-08
Now three blizzard games under design are trying out new ways of charging: wow begins to sell tradable items; starcraft might give up the system of charging by time, and select charge for props and value-added services; Diablo begins charging for transaction process. CEO of blizzard, Mike Morhaime, stresses that it is just a trial in need of players. It will not have negative influence on players for the sake of making money. This system gets supports of loyal players. But there are still some players doubting whether it is true or not. Will blizzard of game play first become a blizzard of gaining profit first?
Wow introduces the system of marketing tradable pets and in the future, points card marketing may be available. In the virtual market, players are able to purchase the pets and mounts, or send to ur friends as gifts. When you have purchased or exchanged the items, get them (including new-built roles) in your email. If you have cdkey of pets or mounts, exchange them immediately. Several days ago, little Lammasu is allowed to be traded. This pet is to be appreciated, not influencing game balance. The next day, report says the number of purchasing this pet is increasing at incredible rate. Many players sell it for gold. Many players buy it for fun. Blizzard says this is soft opening of virtual market. Whether the market will go on or not is up to selling amounts and users’ feedback. Also, it is possible that virtual market will have the function of selling point cards.
In fact blizzard has official malls to sell virtual props which are all appreciated pets and mounts. They don’t affect the balance of game. But these props can not be traded in game, only can be in blizzard mall. Why blizzard open such a mall? To make the marketing process easier and safer. In the game, some players lack virtual gold, while some rich players have much. Rich players hope to buy props with virtual gold. Many players buy props with real money from other players or web, which is unsafe sometimes. Blizzard is wise in looking after players and – making money.
